Although HistSoc loves to party, we know that getting a top degree is a priority so we’re also here to help you get involved in the numerous extra-curricular academic events hosted by the School of History and improve your employability. We promote and publicise all upcoming academic events such as guest speakers and debates through our fortnightly newsletter, ‘Primary Sauce’, sent exclusively to HistSoc members. Added to this we include information and guidance about the various opportunities on offer, information about our upcoming socials as well as the times, match days and results of our netball and football teams.
Last year HistSoc organised many successful academic events such as :
– Workshop and lunch at the M&S Archives on the university campus
– Commemorated Holocaust Memorial Day with a presentation from Holocaust survivor Hannah Lewis
– Book signing with author Mark Dapin
– Pub quiz
– Trip to the Royal Armouries Museum, including weapon handling session
HistSoc membership will also provide you with insight into how to boost your employability and offer careers help and advice. HistSoc are here to offer you more than just a good night out, we’re here to help establish a successful platform post-University!
On October 27th we will be hosting a Careers Networking Dinner, where our members will have the chance to meet our sponsors and get advice from potential employers about job applications and prospects. In the run up to this event, we will also host workshops to prepare for networking at this event. This will be one of our biggest events of the year, ensure to have liked our Facebook page for up to date details – you don’t want to miss out!!
