Netball

netball bannerThe History Society Netball team provides the perfect opportunity for members of HistSoc to keep fit and have fun. HistSoc’s team includes 25 girls who are keen to develop their skills and make friends with people on their course through sport.

Our team trains for one hour once a week, comprising of fitness and game play. The team also plays weekly in the Friday IntraMural League against other Society teams. The league matches offer the opportunity for those who attend training regularly to play at a competitive level.

Our regular sports socials are the perfect opportunity to bond with like-minded people and socialise with different year groups. Joint socials with the HistSoc Boys’ football team are another fun way for History students to socialise and let their hair down. In addition to this, the Netball team also organise the infamous annual Girls vs. Boys Netball match – which is always highly competitive.

The girls’ Netball Team have had a fantastic year: of the four intramural leagues entered in 2013-2014, we won three and came second in the fourth: an achievement that saw both squads qualify for the end of season tournament – which we went on to win. Our prize for winning was the opportunity to play against Leeds Metropolitan University in an Intramural Varsity; and 2014 also saw us announced as Intramural Team of the Year at the LUU Sports Colours Awards!

All in all, we have had a brilliant year, and look to 2014-2015 with excitement!!
